Abstract

This thesis analyzes macroscopic and gravimetric characteristics of the placenta in pregnant women with cardiac defects through systematic morphometric examination. Reduced placental weight, abnormal umbilical cord insertion patterns, and increased rates of gross placental lesions are identified as reproducible structural correlates of maternal and fetal cardiac hemodynamic compromise.
